Stop chasing candidates. Build a brand they chase.

Open LinkedIn on a Tuesday morning and you can predict the first ten messages a senior engineer will receive. They are identical. Hi firstName, came across your profile. Every recruiter sends them. Every candidate ignores them. The candidates who are actually worth talking to ignore them twice.

So why does the industry keep doing it? Because outbound is what we know how to measure. Send 200 messages, get 12 replies, book 4 calls, close 1. The funnel is comforting. It is also exhausting and increasingly low-yield.

The companies that have stopped chasing

The talent leaders I respect most have something in common. Their inbound is so strong they barely need outbound for their core roles. Engineers apply. Marketers apply. Sales leaders apply. Not because the company is famous, but because the company is known for something specific.

Some companies become known for engineering rigour. Some for values alignment. Some for product craft. They did not get there by hiring better recruiters. They got there by building a brand that does half the recruiter’s job before the recruiter shows up.

What that actually means

An employer brand is not a careers page with photos of the office. It is the cumulative answer to four questions a candidate is asking, whether you give them the answer or not:

  • What does this company do that I would be proud to tell my friends about?
  • Who are the people I would be working with, and what do they say about it when nobody from HR is in the room?
  • What would I learn here that I could not learn somewhere else?
  • What happens when things go wrong?

If you do not have honest answers to those four questions ready to go, no amount of LinkedIn outreach will fix your hiring. If you do, half of your future hires are already paying attention.

The work

Building a brand candidates chase is not a campaign. It is a discipline. It is how engineering leaders write on social. It is how managers describe the company at their own dinner parties. It is the post-mortem you publish after a launch goes wrong. It is the offer letter that reads like a human wrote it.

That is what we work on when a client engages us for recruitment branding. Not posters, not slogans. The accumulated signal that makes outbound unnecessary for the roles that matter.
